See and Do
Discover in the garden
There are many ways to explore the garden independently and on your own. The plants and trees in the garden are provided with a nameplate. At the counter there are various brochures with which the visitor can discover the garden.
Are you visiting the garden for the first time? Then the Highlite Route is a good starting point. Ask at the counter for the brochure!
Guided tour
A guide is present on Sundays. The Garden comes to life through the fascinating stories that the guides know how to tell at the various locations. Check the agenda for the availability of a guide or plan a visit as a group (from 6 to 15 people).
Stories from the beehive
An explanation by the beekeeper is only possible by appointment. The beekeeper is present on some days. Check our calendar to plan your visit accordingly.
Tree route for adults
A tree route has been set out along special species and additional information is provided at various locations in the garden. In the Botanical Garden Kerkrade there are many beautiful and special trees spread throughout the garden. Some specimens are very old and large, some species are extremely rare. There are trees with impressive flowers and there are trees with beautiful autumn colours.
The best way to get to know trees is to look at them a lot. That is why the Botanical Garden has a permanent tree route that takes you along a number of special species. It is a route for all seasons. The route is available free of charge in the tea house.
Additional Information about Biodiversity
In the middle of the garden is the greenhouse with a special collection of plants. The plants come from the island of Madagascar, one of the most important biodiversity hotspots on earth. In the greenhouse, not only the story of the plants of Madagascar is told, but also how plants can survive in drought and how plants and vegetation are inextricably linked to the different climates.
A special brochure about these special plants is available at the counter of the tea house.
For children and young people
Special activities are regularly organized for children.
Check the agenda to participate in these activities.

Map
In the Botanical Garden, visitors walk from the entrance and the teahouse into the garden. An extensive network of paths leads past planting beds, lawns with solitary trees, water elements and a greenhouse. A ‘Highlights’ itinerary is available at the counter.
The garden, which covers about one and a half hectares, can be roughly divided into the so-called Bergmans Garden and the pinetum. Characteristic of the Bergmans Garden is its landscaping, with open and closed garden areas and a selection of deciduous trees and flowering shrubs. On display in the pinetum are magnificent conifers, some of which have grown into impressive specimens over the past 85 years. At the end of the pinetum is a bamboo garden.
