Objective
The vision of the Botanical Garden Kerkrade is that bringing the public into contact with nature and the special different manifestations of flora is of vital importance for the well-being of mankind.
Objective: The Botanical Garden Kerkrade aims to offer a relaxing and inspiring nature experience based on the accumulated botanical heritage, by maintaining this heritage well and making it accessible to a wide audience and by providing additional educational, informative, recreational and inspiring activities, aimed at various target groups.
The board is convinced that maintaining the museum status and maintaining the valuable extensive collection is an important condition for inspiring public experience. In addition, the collection is given extra meaning through education, information and appropriate recreational (side) activities.
Core values that are important when filling in the vision for the Botanical Garden Kerkrade are:
Conservation and protection: The preservation of the collection and its expansion are paramount. In essence, this is guaranteeing the collection expertise, adequate collection management and maintaining biodiversity. Maintaining the museum status, and thus meeting the conditions that guarantee this, remains a strict requirement.
Recreation and enjoyment: Botanical Garden Kerkrade tries to keep the accessibility of the garden as optimal as possible. In order to create a substantive and emotional bond with the public and to engage them with the collection, appealing public guidance and the organization of relevant side activities are used.
Involvement and awareness: The Kerkrade Botanical Garden sees it as its task to increase involvement in the garden and nature in general and awareness of the role of man in his living environment. The substantive line of education and public guidance plays a role in this. Involvement is not only increased by presenting the collection as adequately as possible, but also by offering education in which the themes of involvement and awareness in a broader sense are part of it.
Education and knowledge: The Kerkrade Botanical Garden is essentially a living museum; a living classroom and an inspiring learning environment for all ages. Various educational programs at different levels are therefore linked to the botanical collection. The Botanical Garden is also naturally an authentic learning situation. Target groups that use the Botanical Garden as a learning environment are not only the various groups of visitors, but also schools, knowledge institutes and vocational training courses.
Internationalization: The collection of the Kerkrade Botanical Garden is part of the worldwide botanical knowledge and an extensive international network of Botanical Gardens. Building and maintaining the international character remains a focus area for the Botanical Garden. In addition, the touristic expansion towards an offer for the region and a visitor that has an increasingly international character, is a must.
