Botanical Garden Kerkrade
According to the Dutch Association of Botanical Gardens (NVBT), botanical gardens are “institutions where a documented, living plant collection is managed for the purpose of scientific research, nature conservation, exhibition and/or education.”
The Botanical Garden Kerkrade is a richly varied garden that has its origins in the mining past of South-East Limburg. From the very beginning, the garden was intended as a place for education, exhibition and recreation. The beautiful and surprising garden today houses a plant treasure trove. The living plant collection and the garden invite you to discover and enjoy the great diversity of the plant kingdom. Visitors expand their knowledge and discover how important plants are for our world.
The Botanical Garden Kerkrade is a member of the NVBT. The NVBT currently has 27 gardens, spread across the Netherlands. The Botanical Garden Kerkrade is the only member located in the southeast of the Netherlands. The garden is also affiliated with the international umbrella organization for botanical gardens, the BGCI (Botanic Gardens Conservation International).
